Leslie (L. H.) Hames, Jr., beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4th. He lived in the Health Center at Montereau for the past 7 years. The family would like to thank the compassionate caretakers at Montereau and his nurses with St. Francis Hospice. Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church in downtown Tulsa, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10th.
Leslie was born May 2, 1928 in Prague, OK, then moved to Tulsa, then Chandler, where he attended Jr. and Sr. High. After High School, he attended Phillips Bible College in Enid, where he met and married Doris Adkisson, an art instructor there. Graduating from Phillips, Leslie and Doris courageously headed to New York City, so he could be trained for the ministry at Union Theological Seminary.
Leslie's pastoral ministry began serving as the Campus Minister for the Disciples of Christ denomination at O.U. in Norman (and as the Associate Minister of First Christian Church in Norman). In succession Leslie moved to First Christian in Graham, TX (3 yrs.), First Christian in Richardson, TX (5 yrs.), Central Christian in Ft. Worth, TX (6 yrs.), Yale Ave. Christian in Tulsa, OK (8 yrs.), and finally at First Christian in McKinney, TX (12 yrs.). After the death of Doris in 1988, Leslie married long-time family friend Marcia Cannon, and shared many years of happiness until Marcia's passing in 2016. Over the years Leslie led thousands of people to a richer, fuller life in Jesus Christ. He emulated Christ's life both in service and in humility!
Leslie is survived by his children, Mark (&Kim) Hames, Meredith (&Mike) Miller, and Paul (&Jennifer) Hames, by his grandchildren, Tyler (&Jennifer) Miller, Megan (&Buddy) Cronk, Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Tanner Miller, Matthew (&Jordan) Hames, Dylan (&Shannon) Hames, Jordan Hames, Chase (&Hannah) Hames, Harrison Hames, Lilyann Hames, and by his great grandchildren, Addison Cronk, Ava Cronk, Henry Hames, and Peter T. Hames. Leslie is also survived by his step-children Nancy
(&Dannie) Legrange, Melissa Kimbrough, Brooks (&Melissa) Cannon, and by his step-grandchildren, Summer (&Kevin) O'Brien, Danielle (&Curtis) Tackett, Jessica (&Gray) Schneider, (Chelsea) Cannon, and by his step-great grandchildren, Jade Tackett, Emily Tackett, and Stratton Cannon. Leslie was preceeded in death by parents Leslie Hames, Sr. and Ruby Pearl Hames, wives Doris Hames and Marcia Hames, sister Eva Lee Curry, nephew Steve Curry, and by step-grandson Wade Cannon. Leslie (L.H.) Hames will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him!
