Leslie S. Hauger, Jr. was a retired Lawyer and U.S. Administrative Law Judge. Les was born to Leslie S. Hauger and Mary Eva Hauger on October 10, 1930 in Dallas Texas, and died on September 7, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Les is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria, his daughters Kerry Hauger Beebe and Jamie Hauger Huneycutt and her husband Jay Huneycutt. He survived his deceased brother, George Hauger. He is survived by George's wife, Joan Hauger and their children: Kim Hauger, MD, his wife Nancy, their children and grandchildren; Robert Hauger, MD, his wife Alice and their children; Kathy Ostrem, her husband, Scott, and their children.
Les' family moved to Tulsa in June of 1943, and Les attended Horace Mann Junior High School, Central High School, Rice Institute, Oklahoma University and Tulsa University where he completed his law degree.
Les had various occupations over the years. He joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and became a First Lieutenant as a Navigator/Bombardier. He received several citations flying 50 combat missions, including five air medals and a Distinguished Flying Cross. After Korea, he went to work in the insurance business, earned the distinction as a Certified Property Casualty Underwriter, and became licensed as an Oklahoma Insurance Consultant.
After graduating from law school, he became a sole practitioner in his law practice. After practicing for 31 years he was appointed to his position as a U.S. Administrative Law Judge (ALJ). He served in New Orleans for almost 3 years, and then became the Chief ALJ in McAlester, Oklahoma before being assigned to Tulsa. He retired from the Tulsa office on September 29, 2000.
Les belonged to the Tulsa County Bar Association and served on the Ethics Committee. He was a charter member of the Thornton Family YMCA and taught CPR and Scuba diving there. Les obtained a pilot's license, bought a plane and enjoyed flying his family and business associates around the country. He donated blood for the Red Cross over 100 times until he had heart surgery in 2008. Les was a runner, a triathlete and an avid golfer. He belonged to golf clubs in Tulsa, New Orleans, and at Grand Lake. He worked as a rules official in several tournaments, including the U.S. Open. He was a member of Rotary Clubs in Tulsa, New Orleans, and McAlester, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow.
Memorial Services will be held at Inverness Village, 3800 West 71st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 12, 2017.
