Obituary

Lestel Kelley Turnage was called home January 30, 2015 after fighting his battle with lung cancer. Les was born in Griffithville, Prairie Co., Arkansas on April 1, 1927. Les was preceded in death by his parents, William Kelley Turnage and Jessie Ann (McAllister) Turnage; six siblings, William Norbert Turnage, Mary Lodean Harvey, Alvera May Keathley, James Esten Turnage, Marjorie Emogene Conder Blackwood, John Wilbert Turnage; and his devoted wife Cathryn June (Johnson) Turnage. Les and Cathy were married on October 23, 1948 in Eudora, Chicot Co., Ark. They made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Les was survived by sister Doris Catherine (Turnage) Birch of McGehee, Desha Co., Arkansas; daughter Mickey Dianne (Turnage) Toney and son-in-law Jimmie Wayne Toney of Broken Arrow, Tulsa Co.,Oklahoma; elder son Walter Kelly Turnage of Bixby,Tulsa Co., Oklahoma; younger son John Phillip Turnage and daughter-in-law Rhonda Lee (Peterson) Turnage of Bixby, Tulsa Co., Oklahoma. Les was also survived by his nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
GRANDCHILDREN: Jessica Marie (Toney) Miller and spouse Roger Dewayne Miller; Erik Clinton Toney; Jason Kelly Turnage and spouse Jeanne Lynn (Ward) Turnage; Kragen Paul Turnage and spouse Cassie Rae (Bibles) Turnage; Jenny Elizabeth Turnage; Kevin Leigh Turnage; Rachael Marie (Turnage) Bui and spouse Song Thaptam Bui; Rebecca Lynn Turnage; and Micah June Turnage.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Samuel Lee Mitchell, Jorja Marie Brown, Seminole Eaglebear Miller, Noah Daniel Miller, Alexis McCaylin Toney, Ava Elyse Toney, Kaylin Marie Turnage, Kinzie Grace Turnage, Claire Elise Turnage, Elizabeth Chaylynn Matthews, Josiah Ladale Henderson, Hezekiah Kragen Henderson, Gerrimiah Emmanuel Henderson, and Mason Lee Bui.

Les served and received an honorable discharge in the Army Air Corp (Airforce) during WWII. After moving to Oklahoma in 1950, Les' occupations included TV repairman, Douglas Aircraft electronic-technician, Reading and Bates technician, landlord of homes in mid-town Tulsa, certified optician and co-owner of Turnage Optical in Tulsa. Les' hobbies included hunting, boating, camping, fishing, and golfing. After retirement, he and Cathy devoted many hours researching the Turnage Lineage. Cathy served as the Family Historian and Newletter Editor for the Turnage Family America non-profit Association as Les served several years as the Oklahoma Representative and one term as President of TFA .
