Obituary

Born August 8, 1936 in Chanute, Kansas to Myron O. and Edith N. (Hudson) Weil, Lettie departed this world on June 11, 2020. Lettie was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Thompson Geltz of 61 years.

She is survived by her children: Keena Maxwell, Deena Price, Craig Geltz, Kevin Geltz and his wife Danette Geitz. She was surrounded by a large loving family including grandchildren, Nicole Hiebert and her husband, Greg, Jason Maxwell, Marshall Price and his wife Amber, Melissa Price and Michael Glidewell. Melinda Shaffer and her husband Jamison, Ryan Morris and his fiance Britney McGinnis, Stacy Michelle Geltz and Drew Sullivan, Sara McGuffin and her husband Alex. Lettie was blessed to have 6 great-grandchildren: Robert, Hannah, Brylee, Declan, Callum and Leon.

Lettie retired from a career in the family hearing aid business and was able to spend time enjoying many hobbies. She found a passion in sewing Christmas stockings that have become family heirlooms. She was an active member as a Lady Shriner; participating in fundraisers with the Akdar Shrine, raising money during the Shrine Circus and for organizing a face painting booth at the Circus. Lettie was known for her bright smile waiting for you to come into her home; her door was always open and she would never forget a face. From the time she was a child she would go with her family over Memorial Day weekend to decorate the graves of family members in many different states. This continued well into adulthood where she would take her children and grandchildren with her until her health would no longer allow her to continue this 70 plus year tradition. These trips with her family ignited a desire to learn more about her lineage, creating a true passion for genealogy. She spent countless hours researching family history, traveling to libraries to gather information and visiting cemeteries across the country taking photos of headstones. At a time before the internet she worked with networks of individuals creating handwritten ledgers that have documents back to the 600's.

In her early years Lettie was active in all four of her children's academic endeavors and extracurricular activities. She was well known for her organization, carrying around her steno pads and being very giving with her time for others. One of Lettie's organizational skills was to have every memorable moment lovingly placed in books with dates, individuals present and location printed beside it. To say she was organized would be an understatement. Lettie's family may have broken hearts but they are filled with wonderful memories of a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with an infectious laugh and a life well lived.
