Obituary

Linda Kay (Bowen) Broughton was born on July 31, 1942 to her loving parents, Floyd and Velva Bowen, joining her older brother, Jerry. Six years later, her brother Cecil was born, and their family was complete.

Linda attended Henryetta Schools for her elementary and junior high school years. Recognizing her athletic talent, Weleetka High School recruited her for their basketball team, and a star was born. She went on to attend East Central State College in Ada, OK. on a basketball scholarship, earning a Batchelor's degree in Education with a focus on multiple subjects. Later in her career, she obtained a Master's degree in Reading from the University Center at Tulsa, demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning.

Linda began her teaching career in Cuba, Missouri. One year later, she returned to Oklahoma and taught physical education at Grimes Elementary School in Tulsa. After leaving the classroom for a few years to have their daughter Misty, Linda returned to teaching in 1988 when she joined the faculty of Edison Middle School. Linda's dedication and enthusiasm inspired both students and colleagues. While teaching at Edison, Linda was honored with numerous teaching awards, a testament to her impact full career. She was a favorite and beloved teacher to many students. Linda retired in 2008, leaving a lasting legacy in education.

On June 4, 1965, Linda married James Broughton. They were blessed with a daughter, Misty, completing their family. Together they enjoyed attending sporting events, supporting OU football and cheering on OU men's and women's basketball teams. Linda was known for her quick wit and engaging storytelling, bringing laughter to family gatherings and sharing cherished memories.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Misty and loyal granddog, Brody, both of Norman, OK.; sister-in-law Joan Bowen of Wetumka, OK; brother-in-law Joe Broughton and wife Dee of Spruce Pine, NC; sister-in-law Joyce Bradshaw of Oklahoma City, OK.; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Velva Bowen; brothers Jerry and Cecil; and husband James Broughton.
