Linda Jean Hargrove - 72

Muncie ,Indiana ? Linda Jean Hargrove, 72, passed away peacefully in
her sleep in the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 29, 2013, at
her residence.
She was born on September 22, 1940 in Tulsa, OK to Merwin and Jane
Hargrove, where her father was the Dean of the College of Business
at the University of Tulsa for 24 years. She attended Sidney
Lanier elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, Will Rogers High
School, and graduated from the University of Tulsa with honors.
After several years teaching in the elementary system of Olathe, KS,
Linda sought and earned a PhD in Special Education at the University
of Missouri, Columbia. For over 31 years she was a highly esteemed
professor of Special Education at Ball State University.
Linda was a member of Chi Omega sorority, and was an active member of
her profession. Her church life was important to her throughout her
life. She was a member of First Christian Church, Tulsa, OK through
her formative years and in her years as a Muncie resident she has been
an active member of The Gathering Church, where she served in the
children?s department for many years. All of the children knew her as "Miss Linda".'. Her family was important to Linda. She is survived by her
brother, Charles and his wife Mary Ann Hargrove of Tulsa, OK; two nehews, Daniel Caldwell Hargrove, his wife Jennifer Thompson and their two daughters, Isabel (8) and Anna(6) of Indianapolis and
Christian Michael Hargrove, his wife Brooke and their three sons, Zachary (20), Gabriel (17) and Jonah (15) of Tulsa, OK. They have all enjoyed an aunt who has been actively interested in their lives and always proud of each one's development, values and accomplishments.
Her years at Ball State University were deeply important to Dr. Hargrove as she endeavored to educate her students not just for knowledge of their studies in Special Education, but mastery of that knowledge. She was known as one of the most challenging and successful
professors in her discipline. Her sense of humor was well known by friends and students alike and the large bat suspended in her office was always dressed in appropriate seasonal attire. Her pride in her university and her robust participation in the many cultural and entertainment opportunities it offered, enriched her life as she
enriched the lives of others.
A gathering and service was held for Linda in Muncie, Indiana with her friends, colleagues and family prior to a service in Muncie officiated by Rev,Joshua Brandt and Rev. Chris Schirck, pastors of her home church, The Gathering in Muncie .
As she makes her final journey home, Dr Linda will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Ok on Saturday, February 9. 2013 at 2PM in her family plot .
Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Myrna Jones. Friends can call at Moores, Rosewood Chapel 2570 South Harvard until 8:00 pm Friday.
