Linda Ann Mitchell, 81, passed peacefully on October 8, 2020 in the presence of family, following a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born on August 9th, 1939 in Tulsa, to George and Thelma Cocke, Linda had two brothers, Karl Cocke and Warren Dannenburg.
A life-long Tulsan, Linda attended Lee Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High, and Central Senior High. She received a B.A. in 1969 and an M.A. in 1983 from the University of Tulsa. In 1989 she received a Doctor of Education from Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Mitchell was an enthusiastic educator, beginning as a preschool teacher at Boston Avenue UMC from 1970 to 1979 and then as a teacher in the Tulsa Public School system from 1980 to 1989. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the cognitive impacts of reminiscing among socially isolated individuals. In 1990 she established GLOW, Inc., Golden Learning Opportunities and Workshops where she worked as a researcher, speaker, and leading advocate for specialized engagement techniques for seniors with memory loss and individuals with dementia. Dr. Mitchell worked closely with the Alzheimer's Association and served as the regional Chairman of the organization from 1999 to 2000.
Linda was first married to Ron St. Clair and then to Allen Mitchell. She is the devoted and loving mother of four children, Ron St. Clair, Jr. and wife Kelly, Sydney St. Clair, Matthew Mitchell and wife Melinda, and Caroline Mitchell. She has five grandchildren, Uma Mitchell, Inga Mitchell, Justin Torix, Storm St. Clair, and Amy Torix; and two great-grandchildren, Krissie Torix and Hagen Torix. Linda's parents, brother Warren, and grandchildren Storm and Amy predeceased her.
Linda's family is most grateful to the staff at Rivercross Hospice and the Porta Caeli House for the excellent care they provided Linda as she transitioned from this life to the next.
