Obituary

Lois Penny Cowan was born on January 5, 1932, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Addie U. Penny and Myrl N. Penny. She was the youngest of six children. Lois attended the University of Kansas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy.

Following graduation, Lois moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, where she began her career as the Director of Occupational Therapy at the Children's Rehabilitation Center. While living in Oklahoma, she met the love of her life, Duane Cowan. The two were married in 1955 and built a life centered on faith, family, and adventure.

Together, Duane and Lois raised four children-Diane, Caren, Mark, and Shawn. Lois devoted herself wholeheartedly to being a mother and was deeply involved in the activities and lives of her children. Whether cheering them on, supporting their interests, or creating memorable family experiences, she was always present and engaged.

Lois had a joyful spirit and a zest for life. She loved to laugh, have fun, and make the best of any situation. Anyone who knew Lois would agree that she always wanted to be wherever the fun was happening. Her positive, "can-do" attitude and strong spirit made her a wonderful role model to her children, grandchildren, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Duane Cowan, and her daughter, Lisa Shawn Cowan, as well as her parents, a sister, and four brothers.

Lois is survived by her daughter Diane Stephens (Jimmy), daughter Caren Calhoun (Kenny), and son Mark Cowan. She was also the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, all of whom love and admire her deeply.

Lois lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and joy that will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.

Lois went home to be with her Savior on April 21, 2026. She will be deeply missed and loved forever by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 1 pm at Moore's Funeral Home, 9350 E. 51st Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dress is casual and fun as that would be her expectation!
