Lola Jean Powell Kelley was born November 13, 1932 in Seminole, Oklahoma and died September 4, 2026. She was the youngest of the family with four older brothers who each had ideas about how she should be raised. Because of or in spite of her parents and brothers, Lola grew to be an independent woman. She met the love her of life, Edmond Kelley, when she was 12 and he was 13. They were the best of friends until they discovered that they couldn't live without each other. A marriage based on mutual respect, a deep friendship and lots of laughter lasted for 60 years when Edmond died. Professionally, Lola was well loved as an English teacher in Pauls Valley, Houston and Bartlesville. Her students spoke of her ability to foster the love of learning and independent thinking. She was highly respected by the community and her students. She could make you feel like you were truly the most amazing person she had ever met. She was often described as elegant but also incredibly warm and welcoming to everyone she met. She is survived by her daughter, Claire Robertson and her granddaughter, Kate Robertson both of whom will always remember to stand up straight, look people in the eye, listen and read in order to grow their worlds beyond the obvious. In lieu of flowers, get lost in a book. Lola always had her nose between the pages and her mind miles ahead of the rest of us. Read something that challenges you and sparks curiosity. Lola would have gotten a kick out of that.
