Obituary

Lora Jean (Woods) Hood, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma was born December 19, 1925 in Ralston, Oklahoma and passed away at 96 years of age in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on September 21, 2022. Her high school sweetheart left to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She joined the war effort by working at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas assembling B-29 bombers in a role that we now know as a Rosie the Riveter. After his return home, she married her high school sweetheart Daniel Wayne Hood and they built their first home in Spokane, Washington. After several years, they moved to Tulsa. Being part of The Greatest Generation, she believed in hard work. We love hearing her stories about how she kept busy as a carhop, her time in real estate sales, working for the family construction business, vision and dental clinic staff, and repeatedly top sales at Flower City and Seasonal Concepts for breaking all records in patio furniture and Christmas tree sales. She was a Charter Member of Eastwood Baptist Church.

She was an avid college sports fan and #1 OKC Thunder fan. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, square dancing, tennis, decorating for holidays, playing bridge weekly with dear friends well into her 90's, crocheting, reading the paper and watching the news. She always wanted to know "what was going on". She was a proud Native Cherokee, funny, witty, and we cherish her storytelling. We are blessed to have had many holiday and family get-togethers with five generations. She loved being around younger people and younger people loved being around her. She was proud of "us kids" and always encouraged us to be our best. She was an amazing person who brought joy to all of those around her. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Perry William Woods and Ruth C. (Washbourne) Woods, husband Daniel Wayne Hood, three sisters Zenoma Kelly, Nola Gaydusek, and Johnnie Frese, one brother Charles Woods, and brothers-in-law Ern Kelly, Cecil Armstrong, Bob Gaydusek, and Milton Jones.

She is survived by her son Perry Hood and his wife Diane Hood, her son Charlie Hood and his wife Kimberly Miller, her daughter Vicki St. John, her sister Betty Jones, brother-in-law Erwin Frese, affectionately known as "Grammer" to six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Services will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
