Obituary

Louis Everett Striegel, 92, of Tulsa, OK passed away at his daughter's home on April 15, 2024. Lou was born March 21, 1932 in Salisbury, Missouri to Victor and Narcissa (Dodge) Striegel.

Lou graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO and joined the United States Navy where he was Honorably Discharged in April of 1951.

Lou accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in December, 1951. After a year at Kansas City Bible College, he began working with young people as the Director of Bible Clubs in Tulsa High Schools for the Youth for Christ organization. Lou often quoted - and lived by - the second half of John 10:10 in which Jesus said, "I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly." Lou lived an abundant life, anxious for nothing. He did so because of his tremendous faith that he was a child of God. He had no doubt where he would spend eternity. That confidence gave him tremendous freedom to enjoy life here on earth - and enjoy it he certainly did.

Lou had a seemingly unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He graduated from William Jewel College in 1958 then went to law school, receiving his Juris Doctorate from University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law. Lou went on to obtain a Masters of Political Science degree from Wichita State University and completed all coursework toward a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Kansas.

While the primary skill used throughout his career was as an attorney, Lou had extensive experience in both the public and private sector. He began his professional career working as Special Council for Wichita Kansas businessman Willard Garvey. He then traveled throughout the state of Kansas selling Law books to local law firms for the Vernon Law Book Company.

After completing his advance degrees, he joined the legal staff for the newly created Environmental Protection Agency in Denver Colorado writing water quality standards. That work led him to the Department of Interior in Washington DC, first as the Special Assistant to the Solicitor and then as Deputy Under Secretary. While in DC, he also served as Minority Council for the House Interior Committee; held a short term as an Appellate Court Judge as well as a member of the legal staff for the World Bank.

Lou's career path brought him to Tulsa, OK in 1978 when he was asked to serve in the newly created Department of Energy as Deputy Chief Council for the DOE's Southwest District Office as well as acting deputy director of DOE's Economic Regulatory Administration.

Lou later moved to Stigler OK where he operated a farm and opened a private law practice. Feeling a different calling to serve in government, he ran, unsuccessfully, to represent Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District in 1982. During his time in Stigler, Lou was elected Associate District Judge for Haskell County. He retired from his law practice in 2007.

Lou is survived by his four children: Jeanette Maupin of Springfield, Missouri; James Striegel and his wife Judy of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; June Doughty of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jessica Brown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Grandchildren Kathryn Rhodes, Lauren Smith, Matthew Doughty, Mary Doughty, Tashana Striegel, Adeliyn Brown and many nephews, nieces, and great grandchildren. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and his brother-in-law.

There will be a celebration of Lou's life at Moore's Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel at 1:00 pm April 24,2024. 9350 E 51st St Tulsa OK 74145. He will be interned at Salisbury Cemetery at 10:00 am April 26, 2024 with a small graveside service.
