Lucille Marguerite Norris passed away Sunday May 27, 2018 at the age of 94 (said it sounded better than 92). Born December 2, 1925 in Stafford, KS to John and Faye Gibbens, Lucy grew up and attended school in Wichita, KS and took fashion design in New York City before joining the war effort making parachutes.
Meeting Dick Norris on a blind date they married a month later staying together 62 years until his death in 2012.
Making Tulsa their home they raised Susan (deceased) and Tommy. In the 1960's and 1970's she was the Camp Fire Girls leader at Taft Elementary and Clinton Jr. High. She also volunteered putting meals together for Meals on Wheels and teaching literacy skills through the Tulsa Public Library. Being a voracious reader she read practically a book a day her entire life.
She moved to Chehalis, WA in 2000 where her and her daughter Sue became Master quilters winning awards for their amazing quilts. She was affectionately known as "the quilt lady" at her retirement community in Tulsa where she lived the last 6 years.
She hated exercising but walked every day for years in the neighborhood where she lived. She was the bright spot in every room she was in. Her smile and wit will be missed by all who knew and loved Lucy.
She is survived by her brother Harold Gibbens and his wife Marianna (Emporia, KS), son Tom (Tulsa) and the light of her life, grandson Derek Norris (Pittsburgh, PA).
There will be a memorial service Monday June 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Moore Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa.
