Mary Lurea Hopkins was born October 16, 1926 in Valliant, OK to Charles and Naoma (Fulmer) Slaughter. She went on to graduate high school from Valley View High School in 1943 then obtained an Associates degree from Texas Woman's College in 1945. Lurea worked for the U.S. Post Office in Kamay, TX.

In the early 1950's after her father had passed Lurea moved to Tulsa, OK.
There she met the love of her life, Luther Hopkins and they were married in 1953. They were married for 30 years when Luther passed away in 1983.

Luther and Lurea were founding members of Heatherridge Baptist Church, Tulsa, OK. Luther helped build the church. She also worked for the election board for many years.

Lurea liked to travel and took numerous trips to Chicago and St. Louis to watch the Cubs play. She was also an avid bowler. During the summers she spent quite a bit of time at Blue Hole swimming with the grandkids.

There was ALWAYS grandchildren in her home.

On Friday, November 27th, 2020 Lurea went to be with Luther again.

Lurea is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Naoma Slaughter; her infant son John Hopkins; loving husband, Luther Hopkins; great grandson, Danny Baker; daughters, Patrica Martin and Monette Sams

Lurea is survived by her grandchildren, Sharon Jackel of Claremore, OK; Becky & Dave Harrison of Langley, OK; Barbara Beaver of Claremore, OK; Linda Gipson of Columbus, KS; David Cypert of Chandler, OK; Thomas & Deborah Cypert of Claremore, OK and Christine Sams of Tulsa, OK. Also 16 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-great-grandchildren.

She has left behind an amazing legacy! She will be deeply missed.
