Luther Franklin Boring II, age 88, left this life on October 28, 2018. He was born in Houston, Texas, on September 9, 1930, to Elizabeth Daab Boring and Luther Franklin Boring. He married Juanita (Nita) Tipton on March 14, 1952.
Luther graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1949 and attended the University of Tulsa.
In 1951, Luther enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Korea as GMSN aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS Los Angeles CA 135. He was transferred to Honolulu, Hawaii, Ford Island with CINCPAC Fleet in 1952. His tour of duty was complete in December of 1954.
Upon leaving the Navy, he worked for Warren Petroleum Company/Chevron for 38 years in the Manufacturing Engineering Department retiring in 1992.
Luther and Nita met and dated in junior high and had a couple of classes together at Will Rogers High School. They maintained their friendship that grew into courtship that led to their marriage in 1952. They were married during his Navy tour in Hawaii � a great time to live on the Island. They had their daughter Brenda there, and their second daughter, Beth, was born here in Tulsa in the same hospital as her mother, St. John!
Luther served at First Baptist Church of Tulsa as Deacon and volunteered at the church's Caring Center. He and Nita taught preschool for many years and taught in the Young Married class. Together they helped start a satellite church, South Tulsa Baptist Church.
He and Nita were dedicated participants in Will Rogers High School reunions and monthly meetings of the 49er's classmates. They were charter members of Philcrest Hills Tennis Club, and he was an avid singles player. He attended weekly meetings with a group of men called "The Lunchmen." His primary hobby was his love for old cars. He cherished his 1952 Desoto which was his first new car. He joined the Desoto Club of America, attended their annual conventions and enjoyed the friendship of other Desoto owners. In the early 70s, he restored the engine and enjoyed doing the mechanical work himself.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, his daughters, Brenda Boring Sandefur and Beth Boring Eagleton, his grandchildren: Sarah Sandefur Whitley and husband, Chris; Thomas Sanderfur and wife, Samantha, and James; Will Eagleton and wife, Liz; and Sally Eagleton; son-in-law, Bill Eagleton; niece Jennifer Pinchal and husband, Mace, and great niece, Skylar, and niece Connie Boring Drake and husband, Van, and great nephew, Nicholas Crownover.
Luther was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Boring.
Luther was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and gentleman.
The family gives many thanks and much appreciation to Joe Parkhurst, caregiver, and to Claremore Veterans Center staff and to the nurses on Floor 2B for the excellent care and love given to Luther.
Services will be held at Oklahoma Methodist Manor, 4134 E. 31st Street, Tulsa, OK, in the Fleming Center on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Caring Center, 403 S. Cincinnati, Tulsa, OK 74103, or Oklahoma Methodist Manor or the charity of your choice.
