Obituary

Lyle Gene Conyers was born December 1, 1931 in Elwood, Nebraska, Gosper County to Elfrieda Menze and Robert P Conyers. By 1937 he started school in Denver, Colorado and by third grade went to school in Lincoln, Kansas until he graduated in 1950.

Lyle joined the United States Navy on June 7, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri and was sent to basic training in San Diego, California where he graduated as an Aviation Structural Mechanic "A" in January, 1951. While on leave he met the love of his life Velma Lorene Hayes on a bus while going home to visit his mother before reporting to Jackson, Florida.

He and Velma wrote letters to each other getting acquainted and sharing their dreams of a future. On September 24, 1951 they got married in Van Buren, Arkansas. By the end of 1952 Lyle was shipped to Naples, Italy and stayed until March 1954 when he got out of the service and they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Lyle worked 8 years for Paige Glencliff Dairies and then started his own business in 1962 called C&H Rentals – Appliances. This was a new and innovative concept – renting out appliances on a monthly rental plan with the option to purchase. A national trade magazine wrote about his business and as a result he got many calls from around the United States asking how the process worked. One man in Chicago, Illinois sent his son to Tulsa for two weeks for Lyle to teach him everything about the business.

Ten years later Lyle expanded to household furniture and called the business S&P Furniture Rentals for the next 21 years. Lyle retired from business in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and visiting with friends and family and over the next 17 years he lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Morris Town, Tennessee, and Lafayette, Indiana before coming back to Tulsa, Oklahoma in January, 2010.

He had fond and loving memories of his sister Lois Rigney who preceded him in death. A living brother Charles Conyers of Palm Springs, Florida and a sister Eileen Griffiths of Brookfield, Wisconsin. Daughter Linda Conyers of Tulsa, James Stirling who called me Dad, and best lady friend, companion, and care giver Sharon Ruston of Tulsa.

Children are:
Janet Lyla Lorene Shelton and husband Gary of Coweta, OK
Larry Gene Conyers and wife Diana of Claremore, OK
Linda Kay Conyers and James Stirling of Tulsa, OK
Lynn Dale Conyers and wife Debby of Broken Arrow, OK

Pallbears are his grandsons:
Rodney Stephens
Roger Stephens
Randy Stephens
D. J. Miller
Roche Miller
Robbie Conyers

He is survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and dozens of neices and nephews. Many of whom he had befriended on Facebook.

At Lyle's request we did not share parts of his life with you today but he did want all of you to know that "Linda and Sharon were the only two of my friends and relatives who stayed with me until the very end."

A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me."
Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed,
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin,
Until the day comes we're together again.
