Lynda Gattenby Jones, a long-time resident of Tulsa, OK, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday the 10th of March, 2015 in her home.
She was born on September 1, 1956 in Okmulgee, OK, however, she claimed Haileyville, OK her hometown as that was where she graduated high school in 1973. She returned to Okmulgee to continue her education by attending what is now OSU Technology. Upon completion of her training in what was then the modern career field of key punch, she moved to Tulsa where she continued to work and live the remainder of her life.
Lynda worked most of her adult life for the U.S. Postal Service at the Sheridan Station, lacking only a few short months of being 30 years total when she was forced to stop due to her declining health.
Lynda, along with her husband, Dr. Phillip W. Jones to whom she was married for 34 years, enjoyed many of the same interests, one of them being, an appreciation of the night sky. As a member of the Tulsa Astronomy Club, she held the office of secretary for several years, and was active during the years that the club was able to place an observatory on AT&T Hill near Mounds, OK.
Lynda was an avid reader, loved cats, and fully enjoyed being an aunt to her nephews and nieces. She appreciated good food and socializing, enjoyed traveling and had a wonderful sense of humor.
She leaves behind her husband, Phillip Jones of the home,her step-mother, Brosha Gattenby, her siblings and their spouses, George & Diane Gattenby of Oklahoma City, Noel & Debbie Gattenby of Tulsa, George & Janet Gooch of Tulsa, OK, Ronnie Jones of Chattanooga, OK, Steve Jones of Denison, TX. Her mother-in-law, Patsy Jones of Chattanooga, OK and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many friends.
She has been preceded in death by her parents Noel Ray & Marguerite Gattenby, of Hartshorne, OK, and her grandparents Gilbert & Lucy Gattenby of McAlester, OK and Ernest & Willie Strange, Haileyville, OK.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00pm by the Moore Funeral Home (2570 S Harvard, Tulsa, OK).
