Lynn is one of the lucky few who could proudly say he accomplished his lifelong dream. At age 10 Lynn and Linda loved watching Perry Mason. It was at this age that Lynn declared his goal of one day being a trial attorney. He never lost sight of that goal. He studied and worked extremely hard on his academics as well as simultaneously working multiple jobs to put himself through law school. He met the mother of his two children (Munci and Braxton), Martha S. Phillips in Tulsa, Oklahoma shortly after law school. They were married June 20th, 1980 until 1998 when they separated ways, but remained best friends until his death. Family was the most important thing to Lynn and he was extremely proud of the beautiful family and children they raised together. Even while managing his own law practice, Lynn always made time to support his family and was actively involved in anything they did. He was both children's basketball coach every year they played (That was 7 years for Braxton), as well as Braxton's soccer coach or assistant coach from the time Braxton started playing at age 6 until his Senior year of high school. Munci was busy with gymnastics and ballet and Braxton stayed extremely active in soccer and basketball. And Lynn was at every practice, game, and tournament. Lynn's favorite moment was always any time the family was together sitting around the dining table.
Lynn was an afficionado of sports and the outdoors. He loved to fish and be on the water, he owned a beautiful blue and silver sparkle Ranger Bass Boat for many years, he loved taking the family fishing on the local lakes, and he also competed in Bass Fishing Tournaments- even winning some. He loved horse racing; he appreciated the sheer strength and beauty of the horses, as well as the studying and strategies required to make winning predictions. He enjoyed many a race days at the simulcast with his buddies and was referred to by them as, "Milemaster". After his retirement, Lynn went fishing a lot and became a regular gym-junkie working out every single day. In his early 70's Lynn was in incredible shape, he made some dear friendships, and was a largely admired and enjoyed figure to all the regulars.
Lynn loved to cook and he was always an incredible cook and grillmaster. He and his friends made and canned their own BBQ Sauce and pickles and made the best deviled eggs you've ever had. Weekend BBQ pool parties were a regular thing growing up at the Mundell house. During the holiday season, Lynn used to spend days smoking whole turkeys, hams, and other goodies for all his friends and regulars at the courthouse.
Lynn loved animals, and they loved him. He had a soft spot for little lap dogs and was notorious for spoiling the family dogs. They were almost always on his lap getting loved on and following him around the house for treats.
Lynn was very charismatic, genuine, and a very special friend to a lot of people over his life. You always felt warmth, comfort, guidance, and laughter in his presence.
Those of us that were fortunate enough to know Lynn will always remember his loud and infectious laugh, his quick-wit and sense of humor, his big booming voice and direct communication style, his mustache, his methodical and particular ways, his cleanliness and awareness of germs, his intimidatingly broad stature paired with his gentle all-loving heart, his commanding presence in a room, his brilliance- a photographic memory and uncanny ability to calculate numbers in his head rapidly, he could tell you what day of the week a future date would be, his athleticism and natural abilities, his cooking, his thoughtfulness and consideration of others, his generosity and desire to help people (even if they could not afford his legal fees), his will-power and integrity, the humor in hearing him speak his strong political views and opinions, his love of Mizzou and passion for sports and games, his vocal detest of bad: plays, sportsmanship, and calls when watching sports, his love of Christmas and his deep crooner voice singing Christmas Carols, his love of old westerns, action movies, and mysteries as well as his love of movies with happy endings and imaginative fantasies like Harry Potter, his unparalleled work ethic, the nicknames he gave people, his ability to lead and teach, his undying loyalty, his warm hugs, and his immense and incomparable love of his family and friends.
