Obituary

Marc Alan Frazier, D.D.S., died in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on October 10, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born in Tulsa on September 3, 1938, to Ruth and Orville Frazier. Having decided in junior high school that he wanted to become a dentist, Marc took a strong science curriculum at Will Rogers High School, attended the University of Tulsa for his pre-medical courses and Washington University in St. Louis for dental school. After graduating in 1962, he practiced dentistry for 42 years, first in the Navy in Bainbridge, Maryland, and then in Tulsa. He loved his profession, especially the opportunity to get to know so many wonderful patients. Marc served as president of the Tulsa County Dental Association from 1992 to 1993; he received the A. L. Walters Memorial Award for outstanding Tulsa dentist in 1993 and the President's Award presented by Delta Dental of Oklahoma. After retiring from dentistry in 2004, Marc spent 17 fulfilling years doing volunteer work in the Emergency Room at St. John Hospital. He was chair of the volunteer program and especially enjoyed mentoring students who were considering going into the field of medicine. Marc often counseled these students to remember the importance of the arts in their lives as their "connective tissue."

Music was Marc Frazier's connective tissue. He received a Tulsa Tribune scholarship to play the trombone in the University of Tulsa marching band, and he continued playing the trombone throughout most of his retirement years. He was gifted with a beautiful baritone voice and enjoyed both choral and solo singing. He sang in the Will Rogers High School Round-Up, in the University of Tulsa Modern Choir, and since 1964 in the Chancel Choir of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.

In 1962 Marc married Linda Sellen Frazier. The two met in the First Baptist Church Choir in high school and began singing duets together, which they continued throughout their 60 years of marriage. Singing together at Boston Avenue, attending the Tulsa Symphony, Chamber Music Tulsa, and Tulsa Opera, and supporting the arts in Tulsa were integral parts of their life together. Marc was a member of the TU Kendall College of Arts and Sciences Board of Visitors and previously served on the Boards of Tulsa Opera and the Tulsa Historical Society. Linda and Marc also loved to travel, especially to France, which they considered their second country. Marc knew a lot about a lot of things, and he was always willing and eager to share his knowledge with family and friends. Most of all, Marc was devoted to his family. His two daughters and their families were his pride and joy.

Marc is survived by his wife Linda, his daughter Marcy Rooker and her husband Chris, his daughter Lynn Goldberg and her husband Marc, his grandchildren Jack Huigens, Kate Huigens, Emma Goldberg, and Elise Goldberg, and many other beloved family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held in the sanctuary of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 15, at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Fred Elder Organ Recital Series at Boston Avenue Church, the University of Tulsa School of Music Advocates for student music scholarships, and the Tulsa Symphony.

Marc will be remembered as a most caring, enthusiastic, interesting and interested, ever lively man.
