Margaret Ann Adkins
The youngest of three children, Ann, as she preferred to be called, was born January 17, 1938 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Bertha Ozella Ballard, a homemaker, and Joel Benson Broyles, a shoe salesman. Ann's parents divorced when she was five years old whereupon her life was split between Yale, Oklahoma and Ardmore. At age sixteen Ann married Vincent Osborn of Missouri and bore him seven children.
To help with finances, Ann ran a business in the home providing childcare to others while her own children were young. Later she took nurse's aide training in the hospital and worked in various nursing homes as a medication aide.
After twenty-six years of marriage, Ann divorced Vincent. She later married whom she called the love of her life, David Adkins. Ann then went into private duty nursing where her genuine loving care for others kept her busy with her patients until she had a stroke in 1995. Afterwards she worked with David in his janitorial business and babysat her grandchildren until further strokes left her incapacitated. After caring for Ann by himself in the home for several years, David reluctantly situated her in Franciscan Villa Nursing Center for full time care where she lived for the last seven years of her life. Even there she loved to sing gospel hymns with the family.
In her spare time Ann loved to crochet, embroider, cook for others, bake bread, play cards, pranks, and a variety of games. Always having a love for music, Ann learned to play the guitar at 50 years of age; she sang and played in church and wherever she could. Her favorite music artist was Elvis Presley whom she saw in concert, but she loved a variety of musical genres. Her favorite vacation destination was Branson, Missouri.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Alice Marie Strader (Charles) of Yale, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Harold Adkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and seven children: Darrell Wayne Osborn (Judy) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Susan Colleen Davis (Charlie) of Bixby, Oklahoma; Joe Vincent Osborn of Tulsa; Wanda Christine Gutierrez (Arthur) of Houston, Texas; Nancy Darlene Osborn of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Kathy Ann Pollard of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Timothy Allen Osborn (Michele) of Ochelata, Oklahoma; twenty grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
