Obituary

Margie Leola Byrum passed away on February 28, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born on October 9, 1931 in Bixby, Oklahoma to Beulah Mae Spangler and James Alfred Spangler. She had 3 brothers: Norman Spangler, Jimmie Spangler, and Alfred Spangler Junior.

She graduated from Bixby High School, and she married Rassie Dalton (R.D.) Byrum on December 24, 1949. She and R.D. lived in Tulsa, and they had been married for almost 50 years when R.D. passed away in 1998. Margie had three children: Mark Lee Byrum, Kathryn Mae (Kathi) Byrum, and Clifton Mallory Byrum. She was primarily a homemaker and worked as an accountant for a few years after her children got older. She later helped care for and raise her two grandchildren; providing, among other things, numerous memorable summer days.

Margie was an avid gardener, and she worked daily in the yard until she was almost 90. Even then, she was still managing to garden three or four days per week. She replaced the grass in her last two yards with flowers, and received awards for "Home of the Month" at her previous home on Birmingham Avenue. She lived with her daughter Kathi since 2013. Margie's "famous neighborhood garden" on South Norfolk was showcased on Channel 2 news during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. She is also preceded in death by her two sons, Mark Lee Byrum and Clifton Mallory Byrum.

She is survived by her daughter Kathi Knipfer, and her grandchildren Mark Lee Knipfer and wife Anna of Atlanta, Georgia and Joshua Shane Knipfer and wife Johanna of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is survived by three great grandchildren, Noah and Zoe Knipfer of Atlanta and Eliza Knipfer of Tulsa as well as a number of nieces and nephews, all of whom have been very dear to her.
