Marian Jean
Greenwood
September 2, 1924 – May 13, 2026
On May 13, 2026, Marian Greenwood passed away, rejoining her best friend and life partner, Ken Greenwood, who died in 2013. She was born on September 2nd, 1924, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Irma Coombs and Cyril Coombs. She enjoyed a childhood filled with ballet, piano and singing. Her soprano ("she sings like a bird," Ken used to say) led her to professional singing in high school and college. While at Lincoln High School, she met Ken, and a lifetime filled with love began. While he was in the service in World War II, she received an Associate Degree in Speech from the University of Nebraska. She also enjoyed her sorority friends at Sigma Kappa.
In July of 1944, she traveled to Red Fork, New Jersey, to marry Ken, since he was due to go overseas. After the war, he began a career which involved many, many moves to new locations. Marian rose to the challenge, creating homes in various cities for entertaining and bridge games. They finally settled in Tulsa, where she raised her family. Children include son Gil, and daughters Sharon and Jody. Gil and his wife, Margaret, brought into the family Kristy Greenwood (Andrew) of Houston, Gina Christy (Alan) of Oklahoma City, and Elise Sargent (Ryan) of Wyoming, Michigan. Elise and Ryan gave Marian her first and second great grandchildren, Roselyn and Lucy. Daughter Sharon Parker (Jim, deceased) brought daughter Catherine. Daughter Jody Jill McIntyre (Kelly, deceased) added twins Harper and Morgan (Joel). Her family was her greatest joy, especially the Christmas celebrations when everyone was together in her home.
More than thirty years after her first degree, Marian returned to college and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tulsa in 1980. She then went on to achieve success as a Real Estate Broker. During her adventurous life with Ken, they traveled to Ireland, South Africa, Australia, Canada and Alaska. Marian was active in the Salvation Army Auxiliary and St. John's Episcopal Church. She also contributed to the Greenwood family's building of Windycrest Sailing Club at Lake Keystone. Marian played piano and sang into her 90's, and also continued to play a competitive game of bridge. Marian also became Ken's helper by typing all the original scripts for his national award-winning "Cowboys in Tall Grass" documentaries. Marian was always a contributor to animal charities. In lieu of flowers, please support her love of animals. Suggested recipients are Animal Aid of Tulsa and Best Friends Animal Society in Kanub, Utah.
Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday May 26 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
