Marilyn "Mimi" Louise Newman, 81, of Tulsa, OK, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 21, 2015. Marilyn was born in Joplin, MO on July 28, 1933 to Bill and Freda Allen. Marilyn graduated from Joplin High School and went on to receive a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri and MA in Education from the University of Denver. It was in Denver in 1955 that started her long and joyous tenure as a teacher. While in Denver she met George Riley Newman and they married on June 8, 1962. She loved her career in education, classical music and traveling to be with her family. She was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed time with a number of dear friends for many years. Marilyn was also active with her son Jay in the Boy Scouts. Her teaching experience included Denver Public Schools, Pre-school at Aldersgate Learning, and 14 years at Saint Pius X School. She is survived by: Husband George Newman, Son Jay and wife Jennifer, and her beloved grandchildren, Audrey, Harrison, and Ava. She is also survived by her brother Dale Allen, wife Miki, her close cousin Margaret Ann Pulkownik and numerous other relatives "kissing cousins", nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Mass will be 12pm, Saturday January 31 at Saint Pius X Church, Tulsa. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of choice, or the Saint Pius X School Capital Fund.
