A long-time Tulsa resident, Marja Kenworthy was born January 30, 1930, in Petersburg in West Texas to Alfred and Beulah (Ragsdill) Brown. The sixth child and only girl, she is to this day known to family simply as "Sister." Soon after her birth, the family returned to East Texas, where Marja attended schools in the small towns of Rosalie, Bogata, New Boston and Hooks, before returning to Bogata to complete high school.
After a brief stint working in Dallas for Southwestern Bell Telephone, she re-joined her parents, who had moved to Goldsmith, TX. In Goldsmith, she met Joe Don Kenworthy, whom she married on May 28, 1950. Joe and Marja were married for 61 years before his death. In the early years of their union, they moved around the "oil patch," living in Levelland TX, Maljamar NM, and Pampa TX. They moved to Tulsa in 1960, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Marja was a full-time mother and homemaker and treasured those roles. Marja enjoyed trips with their motor home group, square dancing, golf and lunch with friends. But, most of all, she cherished the presence of her family. She loved deeply, and was deeply loved by many people. She passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on July 31, 2017.
Marja is survived by sons, Bill (Susan) Kenworthy of Siloam Springs, AR and Kevin (Lisa) Kenworthy of Falls Church, VA; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Marja was preceded in death by her husband Joe and a daughter, Karen Kenworthy. She left a profound legacy of faith, hope, love, dedication and lasting friendships.
