Cunningham, Marjorie Mae Tedford, 84, passed away Monday, August 11 in Tulsa, OK. Born July 28, 1930 in Minneola, KS to Frank and Leona (McKissick) Tedford, Marjorie attended Sterling College, Sterling, KS where she met her future husband, Robert R. Cunningham. They married on the day of her graduation, June 2, 1952. Marjorie was a born teacher. She was known for her creativity, intelligence, humor, enthusiasm and organization. She taught home economics in Pittsburgh, PA and Norfolk, VA; and 6th grade at Beaufort Academy in Beaufort, SC. After serving at her husband's side in pastorates in Jamestown, KS and Jetmore, KS she fully supported his career as a Navy Chaplain in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Norfolk, VA; Beaufort, SC; Annapolis, MD; U.S. Naval Station, Midway Island; Newport, RI; U.S. Submarine Base Oahu, HI; and Fallbrook, CA. In each of these places, Marjorie shared her gifts as a Bible and Sunday school teacher, as a wonderful hostess, and a talented organizer. In Hawaii she served as President of Awa La Wahini, the Officers' Wives organization. At Fallbrook Presbyterian she taught the Coffee Break Women's Bible Study for over 20 years.
Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert Ross Cunningham and by their infant son, Stuart Cameron Cunningham. Survived by her two daughters who are grateful for her faithful love and example, Lynette Cunningham Hardy and husband, Rev. R. Wayne Hardy of Tulsa, OK, and Louise Cunningham Magee and her husband H. Randall Magee of San Leandro, CA, and her grandchildren David Hardy and wife Lauren Hardy, Jonathan Hardy, Bill Magee, Caitlin Magee Stineman and husband Jordan Stineman, and Laura Magee. She is also survived by her brother Rev. Elwyn Tedford of Loveland, CO and sister, Sheryl Jaeger and her husband, Tim of Wichita, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at the Minneola Community Church, Minneola, KS on Friday, August 15, 2014 with burial at the Minneola Cemetery.
