Obituary

Marlin Ray McGuire, age 78, of Tulsa, OK passed away August 16, 2016 (at his home with his family by his side) after an extensive battle with cancer.

Marlin was born in Hollis, OK on May 16, 1938 to Marshall and Mabel McGuire. At a young age, Marlin moved to Mangum, OK where he graduated from Mangum High School in 1956. He went on to attend Southwestern State University and later transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1961. Immediately following graduation from OU, Marlin received his greetings from Uncle Sam to be drafted into the Army. Marlin took matters into his own hands and volunteered to join the Air Force prior to being drafted and was approved. Marlin married the love of his life, Sharon (Hansmeyer) on August 5, 1960. Sharon was his support system during his mobile years with the Air Force. During their tenure in the Air Force, Marlin and Sharon had the opportunity to travel the United States, living in Mississippi, Texas, California, and Nebraska. In September 1966, Marlin was honorably discharged from the Air Force at the rank of Captain to pursue a career in Chemical Engineering.

Marlin worked as a Chemical Engineer for various firms in Tulsa until he retired in 2010. Together Marlin and Sharon raised three sons, Randy, Scott, and Kurt. Marlin was a devoted husband and father to his family, always putting them second, only to his Lord and Savior.

Marlin was a longtime member of Tulsa's Central Church of the Nazarene. He could be heard on Sunday's singing in the church choir, as well as singing tenor in the church men's quartet. Marlin was also an OU Football season ticket holder for over 40 years. His love of OU sports was definitely a passion that Marlin proudly passed on to his three sons. This love for the University of Oklahoma was a bond that was shared throughout the entire family.

Marlin was preceded in death by his father Marshall McGuire, mother Mabel McGuire, and brother Milton McGuire. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, sons: Randy of Tulsa, Scott and fiance, Patty of Wichita, KS, and Kurt and daughter-in-law, Summer of Norman, grandsons: Alex and Evan of Wichita, and Cooper and Bryson of Norman, sisters: Joyce Olive of Dallas, TX, Marilyn and brother-in-law Louis McNabb of Greenbrier, AR, Carolyn Lynn of Paradise, CA, and brother Mike McGuire of Livingston, CA, seven nieces, and three nephews.
