Marquita Sue Akers, lovingly known as Marquita, Quita, Mom, Grammie, or Miss Kita, went home to her Savior on July 25, 2025, at the age of 83, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Born on November 3, 1941, in Woodward, Oklahoma, she was the eldest of five daughters raised by Sol and Mary Francis Sibenlist. Marquita shared a close bond with her sisters -Janita, Lovita, Marita, and Jolita - and cherished her roots and family values throughout her life.
In 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, George Akers. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. Their 33-year marriage was a testament to enduring partnership, lasting until George's passing in 1994. They were blessed with three children: Rhonda, Doug, and Paula.
Marquita took great pride in being a mother and grandmother. Her home and yard were always immaculate - a reflection of her strong work ethic and love for creating a welcoming space. Her door was always open, and her warmth turned every visitor into family.
Known for her kindness, quick wit, and heartfelt generosity, Marquita had a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and appreciated. Her strength, quiet determination, and unwavering devotion to others were an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by:
Children: Rhonda Miller, Doug Akers, and Paula Baker
Grandchildren: Shanan McDuffee, Amanda Gold, Heath Miller, Berklie Baker, Barrett Baker, Brody Bourgeois, and Bowen Baker
