Marsha M. Haymes (nee Hughey) died peacefully surrounded by family at home on February 3, 2020 in Broken Arrow, OK at the age of 82.
Marsha is survived by her husband, Don of fifty-nine years; sons Eric and Kevin of Los Angeles, CA and Berlin, Germany and grandson, Joseph Haymes. She is preceded in death by her adopted daughter Christina Haymes and brothers John and Jim Hughey. Marsha was born on March 29, 1937 in Henryetta, OK to JC and Hazel Hughey. She graduated from Henryetta High School in 1956 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she studied Humanities. She married Don Haymes in 1960 after meeting at the First Baptist Church of Tulsa, OK. In 1963 they settled in Ponca City for thirty years. Over more than fifty-nine years the couple welcomed three children into their home. She was a devoted and loving mother who encouraged her children and grandchild at a very young age to read, explore and to always be curious about the world around them.
Marsha was an avid equestrian and mentor to countless students of all ages. She was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and was passionate about spreading God's word. She was an active and dedicated member of the Daughters of Grace Sunday School Class at Heritage United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow and often mentored students at ORU, elementary students in the Tulsa area as well as handicapped students in Ponca City.
A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 am on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Heritage United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. Pastor Chis Symes and her nephew Pastor Kriss Haymes will co-officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marsha's life.
