Obituary

Marvin Millard McKissick passed from this life August 24, 2016. Marvin was born in Bates, Arkansas on March 18, 1919 to Joseph Herschel McKissick and Minnie Belle (Allen) McKissick. He moved to Tamaha, Oklahoma (Haskell County) in 1920.
In 1927, Marvin moved to Muskogee County near Haskell and Boynton. Marvin graduated from Boynton High School in 1939.
Marvin enlisted in the National Guard in September of 1937 and was called into the Federal Service in September 1940 with the 160 F.A. 45th Infantry Division. Marvin trained with that division until November 1942. He was accepted to Officer Cadet School (OCS) and in February 1943 received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant assigned to 422 F.A. Regiment, 1st Battalion which later became 691st F.A. Battalion. Marvin spent a year at school troops at Ft. Sill and 4 months at Gainesville, Texas for special training. He then went to England for equipment training and entered combat on Belgium-German border, assigned to 19th Corps. Marvin was released from active duty March of 1946 and assigned to the Reserves.
Marvin again entered Federal Service with 160 F.A. 45th Infantry Division in September of 1950. He trained at Camp Polk and was sent to Japan and then to Korea. He returned in January of 1952 and was released again from active duty.
In June of 1952, "A" Battery of 160 F.A. Battalion was organized in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Marvin was promoted to Captain. He served with the National Guard until 1960 and then was assigned to the Reserves and promoted to Major in 1962 where he was assigned to the retired Reserves.
As a civilian from 1946 to 1950, Marvin was a banker at Citizens in Muskogee, Commercial in Muskogee and Bank of America in Chowchilla, California.
July 1, 1952 to June 30, 1982, Marvin was employed by the F&M Bank and Trust Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He started as Bookkeeper and was promoted to Vice President of marketing. He retired on June 30, 1982 after 30 years of faithful service.
Family and church were his first loves. He served as an Elder for over 20 years and as a deacon for more than 20 years. He loved his family, his church and his country in that order.
Marvin is survived by his son James McKissick and his wife Karina, of Edmond. His daughter Connie Perkins and her husband Gary of Claremore, OK. 4 granddaughters, Rachel (Joe), Melissa (Adam), Megan (John) and Dylani and one grandson Dylan. 7 great-grandchildren, Kylie, Caitlyn, Addison, Grant, Ryne, Macee and Elise. One brother Joe McKissick of Texas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gloria Nadine and by 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
Family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Moore's Eastlawn Chapel.
Services will be conducted at 29th & Yale Church of Christ, Monday, August 29th at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery
