Marvin Dale Nelson, 82, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed away on August 19, 2016 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the husband of Peggy Lou Nelson. They shared 55 years of marriage together.
Born on September 2, 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was the son of Swedish Immigrants Albin and Ingeborg Nelson. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, earning National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals. Upon honorably completing his duty, he later graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. After graduation, he worked many years as Chief Engineer at Dorsett Electronics and then became a successful entrepreneur building his own electrical engineering design company called Monitron Corporation, while also running a cattle ranch in Northeastern Oklahoma until he retired in 2008.
Marvin was a devout Christian and was a dedicated member of Sandusky Avenue Christian Church where he taught adult Sunday school for many years. He loved opera, classical music, sang in the church choir, and was a member of Hyechka Club of Tulsa promoting cultural musical arts. He was an accomplished man with many talents including ranching, learning foreign languages, reading, and successfully completing crossword puzzles in record time on a daily basis. Marvin loved his family, friends, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his spouse Peggy Lou Nelson, and children Marvin Dale Nelson II and his wife Melissa Marlene Nelson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Erik Thomas Nelson and his wife Telisha Rene Nelson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Janet Ruth Thompson and her husband John Allen Thompson of Flower Mound, Texas, along with his grandchildren Katie Elsbeth Wise and her husband Nick Alvin Wise, Ashley Nicole Thompson, Hanna Kristine Nelson, Jacob Erik Nelson, Brittany Elaine Thompson, and Anna Catherine Nelson. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Alice Lynn Wise, Riley Rider Wise, and Temperance Beatrice Wise. He was predeceased by his parents Albin and Ingeborg Nelson, his brother Donald Nelson, his sister Daisy Mona Heuther, and his daughter Linda Lou Nelson.
Visitation will be held at Moore Funeral Home located at 1908 South Memorial Drive, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74112 from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, August 26. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27 at 10 a.m. at Sandusky Avenue Christian Church located at 1101 South Sandusky Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74112, followed by interment at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery located at 1200 North Cleveland Avenue, Sand Springs, Oklahoma 74063.
