Mary Frances Oakley Downey, age 81, passed away surrounded by her children on January 19, 2014 in Tulsa.
Mary was born on November 20, 1932 to John Calvin and Flora Jane Oakley in Coweta, Oklahoma. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School. She was a homemaker and worked as an administrative assistant.
Mary married Darwin "Dude" Downey on June 6, 1952, enjoying 58 happy years together until he passed away in 2011. Mary was a loving and faithful mother and grandmother to her three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Mary has loved and trusted Jesus as her Savior since childhood, and with Dude, she was a faithful member of Hillcrest and Skelly Drive Baptist churches. Mary served as a deacon's wife, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and pianist. She helped many people see the love of God's grace by ministering to others in times of need and celebration. Mary and Dude traveled the world together, enjoying trips throughout Europe, Israel, and the United States.
Mary is survived by her daughter Karen Lundin and husband David of Broken Arrow; son Larry Downey and wife Suzanne of Tulsa; daughter Lori Evans and husband David of Edmond; grandchildren Brian Lundin and wife Lindsey; Kristen Loyd and husband Jordan; Sarah Lundin; Calvin Downey; Clay Downey; Will Evans; Grant Evans; great-grandchildren Colin and Mason Loyd; brother Thomas Oakley and wife Bea; sister Joanna Clark.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dude Downey; her parents; sister Lucile Agoff; brothers Leslie Hayes, James, William, and Herbert Oakley.
Memorials may be given to Clarehouse or St. John's Hospice. Visitation Thursday, January 23, from 6:00- 8:00pm at Moore's Southlawn. Services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, January 24, 2014 at Skelly Drive Baptist Church. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233 share memories at
