At the age of 13 she and her sisters Millie and Jeannie and brothers Robert, Jr. and James moved from Paris to Berryhill, OK with their parents. She often spoke of the summers that she and her sisters used to spend at their grandparent's farm at the foot of Mount Magazine near Paris, AR. She often remarked about hearing the "putt putt" sound of her grandmother's gasoline powered washing machine echoing through the hills of the Ozarks.
Mary graduated from Berryhill High School in 1947 and later attended Draughon's Business School in Tulsa, OK. She went to work for Douglas Aircraft Company in 1952 as a clerk and worked there for 32 years until retiring at the age of 57. Mary loved everything about Colorado, especially road trips to the mountains, the snow in the winters, the wildflowers in the summers and cheering on the Denver Broncos. She also enjoyed fishing and spent many fun years at Grand Lake.
Throughout her career and retirement, Mary was active in many organizations including ABWA (American Business Women's Association), Junior Achievement, the McDonnell Douglas Retirees Club, where she served as President, the Tulsa Air and Space Museum and the Golden Eagle Federal Credit Union where she served as a board member.
