Obituary
Mary Ruth Conn Gunnells, 89, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in a Tulsa hospital after a short illness.
Mary was born 8 July 1927 in Tulsa, OK to parents Ray William Conn and Golda Ruth Bullis English. She graduated from Central High School about 1945 in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma A&M when she then met the love of her life, Gladden "Gene" Eugene Gunnells. Mary enjoyed baseball and met Gladden at a Tulsa Oilers baseball game. They were married on 20 March 1948 in Tulsa, OK and were happily married for 51 years. She was a full-time homemaker and mother of seven children and loved each one of them for who they were and encouraged and assisted their growth when needed. Later in life, she worked for Zebco and retired after 20 years. Mary was the rock and matriarch of our family.
She last attended the Sageeyah Baptist Church (16522 S. Highway 88) in Claremore. We are blessed and appreciative of the love and support shown to her.
Before age became a factor, Mary loved her African Violets and Roses, seasonal shopping trips to home gardening stores, caring for her animals, watching her favorite TV programs such as Dr Phil (and the children knew not to call her during that time), liked to read and listen to music or play her piano, among many other interests and hobbies.
She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her children: Kenneth (Viola) Gunnells, Mary Swain, John (Mary) Gunnells, David (Kim) Gunnells, Kathy (Scott) Smith and Bill Gunnells along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her adoring feline, Dolly, who will miss her immensely.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Gladden Eugene Gunnells in 1999; her devoted son, Ralph Eugene Gunnells in 2010; siblings, Evelyn Conn Wilson, Beverly Conn, and William "Bud" Conn; son-in-law Richard Swain; grandson's Bradley Gunnells and Randall Swain; great grandson Brandon Brito.
Viewing will be 10AM-8PM, Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Moore's Southlawn. Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Home, 9350 E 51st St, Tulsa, OK with entombment following at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5111 S Memorial Dr, next to her beloved husband, Gladden.
