Mary Herndon Davis, age 66, passed from this world February 21, 2017 in Tulsa, OK. The oldest daughter of Thomas and Jane Herndon, Mary graduated from Holland Hall as a National Merit Commended Scholar and went on earn her BA at the University of Oklahoma, with a concentration in journalism. Mary was a gifted writer and got a job right out of college writing for the Waco Tribune-Herald as a staff writer and "beat reporter", with her own by-line. She told colorful stories of pulling up to crime scenes in her 20's, on her bicycle, ready to cover the story. Her keen wit, energy and great sense of humor gained Mary recognition as an up-and-coming journalist in her community. Mary was an accomplished seamstress, artist and photographer. She loved children and animals. She always had a dog. Mary completed her first year of law school before developing an illness which eclipsed many of her dreams. Still, she always retained her brilliant humor, fierce love and loyalty to her family and friends and her complete devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ. Mary was a devout Roman Catholic.

Mary's sisters remember her as the best friend and teacher they could have dreamed of. Mary maintained her kind nature and great dignity through all the trials and tribulations of her life. She will always remain a role model for her sisters, and her eight nieces and nephews, all of whom she adopted as her godchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her dear husband Baxter Davis, her precious daughter Anna Jane, her beloved father and her sweet sister Beth. She is survived by her loving mother, her sisters Carol Klenda (Tom) and Julia Reynolds (Steve) and their children, her aunt Roseann Herndon, and many wonderful cousins whom she loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., March 4, 2017 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Mary's name to The Humane Society of Tulsa, 6232 E. 60th Street, Tulsa OK 74135. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
