Mary "Darlene" Lock was born on March 16, 1927 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Mary Jane Pointer Burke and James Albert Burke. She grew up in Cleveland, Oklahoma and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1945. Darlene attended one year of college at the University of Central Oklahoma and later worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. It was there, while working for Southwestern Bell, that she met and fell in love with her husband John Paul Lock who worked in the field but got to know her because he was working in town. They were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 11, 1954. They were soon blessed with two children, a son, John Philip Lock was born March 21, 1955 and a daughter, Melanie Denise Lock was born on October 10, 1960.
Darlene worked for Tulsa Public Schools from 1965 until her retirement in 1998. It was there she learned how to make her famous cinnamon rolls and developed a love for working with children. John and Darlene attended Calvary Baptist Church from 1966 until 2012; of those years, 40 of which she taught a first grade Sunday School class--rarely missing a Sunday. She has touched the hearts of numerous children, showing them love and helping to develop their faith in Jesus Christ.
Her hobbies included cooking and baking for family and friends. She was known to ask any and all who entered her home if they were hungry and if they said no, she just kept asking until getting the answer she was looking for. She also enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Spoiling her husband, children, and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in life.
Darlene was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who placed God first in all things and gave selflessly to others. Proverbs 31:10-31 describes a wife of noble character who is a hard worker, dedicated mother and servant of God. Her value is far greater than rubies and much praise awaits her at the heavenly gates. On May 15, 2016, Mary Darlene Lock entered those gates with God's favor in the confidence of her salvation through Jesus Christ; doing so with shouts of praise to her Heavenly Father as her faith was made sight. Without question hearing, "Well done good and faithful servant".
Darlene is survived by her husband, John Lock to whom she had been married for 62 years; children John Philip Lock and wife Donna of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Melanie Lock Smith and husband Chris of Duncan, Oklahoma. Other family include her loving and dedicated sister, Nadine Sparks and husband John of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Ashlee Elizabeth Freeman and husband Rick, Joshua Philip Lock and wife Anne, Jared Christopher Smith and wife Shasta, and Aaron Paul Lock and fiancee Rachel; two great-grandchildren Scarlett Irene Smith and Wade Tilson Lock.
