Mary Lou
Thompson
Jan 5, 1931 — Jul 12, 2026
Mary Lou Thompson, 95, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 12, 2026. Born January 1, 1931, she was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. For more than three decades, Mary Lou led a nonprofit foundation dedicated to supporting patients with Benign Essential Blepharospasm, a rare eye disorder her mother, Mattie Lou Koster, lived with. The organization provided essential patient resources and funded millions of dollars in medical research. Early studies supported by the foundation helped identify Botox as an effective treatment for the disorder, long before its cosmetic use became widely recognized.
Mary Lou married Don Wesley Thompson in 1952, and together they built a life centered around family, faith, and service. She was the proud mother of Wesley Koster Thompson and Terry Kay Thompson Ruyle, and a devoted grandmother to Kyle Anthony Densmore.
In addition to her work with the foundation, Mary Lou was an avid traveler, always eager to discover new places and experiences. She was a dedicated volunteer and a lifelong fan of basketball, football, and tennis. She approached each day with gratitude and a steadfast determination to leave the world better than she found it.
Mary Lou is survived by her son and grandson, and preceded in death by her husband and daughter. A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organization to which she dedicated so much of her life, the Benign Essential Blepharospasm Research Foundation at www.bebrf.org.
