Peggy Howard Daugherty

Born October 13, 1923 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Raised in Oglesby, Oklahoma where her parents, Sam and Ada Howard, owned and operated the Oglesby General Store. She attended school in Ramona, Oklahoma. Major high school activities were 4-H Club and the school band. She contends that the band marched behind every rodeo club in northeast Oklahoma during the late 1930's and 1940's! She received two college scholarships - The Don M. Tycer Outstanding Washington County 4-H Club Member and an academic scholarship from Oklahoma A & M College. Peggy majored in Fashion Merchandising in the School of Home Economics at Oklahoma A & M College, graduating in 1945. She was active in many campus organizations including Secretary Treasurer of the Student Senate student association, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, assistant editor of the Redskin college yearbook her junior year, and was the first woman editor ofthe Redskin in 1945. Peggy and Louis Daugherty, her husband of 54 years, were married in Oklahoma City at the First Baptist Church on November 9, 1945. They lived in Oklahoma City, Cushing, and Tulsa.
During the time their children were growing up she volunteered in many of their school activities, including PTA, Girl Scouts, and Little league sports. In 1977 Peggy and Louis purchased Jan Markey Gifts and Peggy operated the gift shop until she sold it and retired in 1999. She enjoyed close relationships with many long time customers and she appreciated and cared for her employees - some who had worked with her for 17 years. Since retirement, Peggy was active in Memorial Baptist Church, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and St. Francis Hospital, and was a member of several social organizations until her death. She enjoyed and valued a close group of friends.
Peggy was an avid fan of Oklahoma State University athletics (Go Pokes!), and extended her enthusiasm to area and state university sports programs. Peggy loved life, was dedicated to her Heavenly Father, and faithful to her Lord, Jesus Christ.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Louis and son, David.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Susan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
