Obituary

Mary Johnson Ondracek, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 at the Montereau Retirement Community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born July 27, 1931 in Plasterco, Texas to Arthur Carlos and Hattie Johnson. Mary was raised in San Angelo, Texas where she graduated from San Angelo High School before attending Texas Tech University.

While in college, Mary met the love of her life one Sunday afternoon. She was going in to the local drug store to grab a soda with her girlfriends after church when a young Laddie Ondracek in uniform caught her attention. They married on September 27, 1952 and shared 65 beautiful years of marriage together..

A military wife, Mary moved across the country and even out of the country-- stationed in San Angelo, San Antonio, and Abilene Texas, South Dakota, Washington, and Japan. Mary took much pride in being a dutiful wife and mother staying home to raise her three sons. Some would say that keeping those boys alive and out of trouble was one of her greatest life's accomplishments. Settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma following Laddie's retirement from the Air Force, Mary worked for the Pipeliners Local Union 798 in the dispatch office. She retired in 1982.

It is no question that some of Mary's favorite things to do was cook for family and friends and bake delicious treats. Mary's other hobbies included gardening in her flower beds, attending prayer group and women's bible study, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling the world with her husband, and serving her church family at Skelly Drive Baptist Church.

She will be remembered for her unwavering patience, unconditional kindness, pure heart, and banana pudding. To know Mary is to truly know a Proverbs 31 woman. "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.' Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

Mary is preceded in death by her mother, father, four brothers, Don Carlos "Sonny," George, James "Bud," and Bob, and husband, Laddie. She is survived by her brother Ted, son Fred and his wife Kathy, son Tim and his wife Nancy, son Jon and his wife Becky; five grandchildren, Sara and her husband Jason, Tyler, Sydnie and her husband Jamey, Tracy, and Stephanie; four great-grandchildren, Hattie, Lucas, Cooper, and James; countless nieces and nephews; and endless friends she considered family.
