Mary Ann Piland, "Ann", 90, of Asheville, NC, entered new Life on April 18, 2021. Born in Tulsa to Mary (Maye) L. Folkes and Clyde J. Sturge. She graduated Will Rogers High School and later attained both a B.F.A. in Interior Design and an M.A. in Humanities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Piland and her sister, Gloria Jean Sturge Haley.
Ann was an adventurist soul. She travelled the World from Australia to Russia to Israel, visiting six of seven continents. Her Christian faith was unwavering and she was long time member of First Baptist Tulsa and Greenwich (CT) Baptist. Christ was her Redeemer and Savior. She had a lifelong love of browsing for antiques and visiting historic houses and she was an enthusiastic member of "Questers" in Tulsa. Ann used her design/drafting skills within architectural firms, including her son's firm and taught at the University of New Haven. She had a special place in her heart for her dogs, Sadie and Sarah. And lastly, her five children were the bedrock upon which she defined her world. She will be greatly missed by all.
Ann is survived by all of her children, Wes Wyrick, Jr. of Kent, CT, Nancy Mascio of Bandon, OR, Jan Gnadt of Fletcher, NC, James Wyrick of Asheville, NC and John Wyrick of Cherokee, NC; nine grandchildren, Cori and Kimberly Nastro, Evelyn Banks and Megan Wyrick, John and Katie Ramirez, and Joshua, Justin and Olivia Wyrick; three great grandchildren, Evan Nastro, Wesley Banks and Russell Ramirez.
Visitation will be between 5 and 7 pm, Friday, May 7, at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home with a prayer and remembrance gathering afterwards. A graveside funeral service will be held 10 am, Saturday, May 8, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hawaii Baptist Academy, 808-837-7653 or on the web portal.
