Obituary

Mary Ann (Danderson) Sales
Mary Ann Sales, 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on July 21,1939, in Tulsa to Albert Franklin and Ines Cliptoy (Stanford) Danderson. She grew up there and later moved to Locust Grove, Oklahoma, where she raised her two sons, Bobby, and Troy Custer.
She worked for Protein Technologies International, a manufacturing company in Pryor, and over the years she managed Cotton's Restaurant and the Daily Double on Admiral in Tulsa along with many other family and friends. If you knew her then, you probably worked a shift a time or two.
She enjoyed taking trips, spending time with her family and friends, going to the casino, playing daub bingo, playing cards like pitch and solitaire and other partner games like dominos. And winning. She really enjoyed winning, so to be her partner in a game was special. She also enjoyed reading romance and mystery novels and her favorite movie was Secondhand Lions.
She was fair and equal, which probably came from being part of a large family. She had 10 brothers and sisters and as you could imagine, being the next to oldest sibling, the arguments she had to fix and games she had to play throughout her lifetime were many.
Family members have recalled that she never cared how loud kids were when they played at her home. Whether that was outside running around or playing the piano inside. She was just happy to see kids in her house and when all other adults wanted the kids to be quiet, Mary let them be loud.
Other memories included the many family gatherings like those at Mohawk Park or at family homes where she would play red rover, and other games like kick the can. She was always right there in the middle of it playing and having a great time.

But she had an ornery side too. She liked joking around. Family members mentioned times when she lived next door to her mother and she would tell the scariest of stories to all the cousins and then afterward send them back to granny's house across the way, but only after it was pitch black outside. You were on your own after that and it was every kid for themselves! She got "tickled" at little funny things like that.
What many will remember most is how kind and unwavering in her willingness to help others she was. She had the kindest of hearts, at times to a fault, but it wasn't a fault to her it's just who she was. She was accepting of others regardless of their past or situation and she was someone a person could count on for a meal or place to lay their head.
And did this lady love to laugh. She loved having people around her and bringing a smile to someone's face. If you heard her laugh or giggle, count yourself lucky. She absolutely loved life and enjoyed living it with all those around her and she did it her way.
Mary is survived by her children, Bobby and girlfriend Rita Watkins, and Troy Custer, both of Tulsa; four grandchildren, Jami and her husband Michael Murphy of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Lyndee Bates of Pryor, Oklahoma and Trey Custer and Harley Custer both of Tulsa. She also was blessed with six great-grandchildren Caden, Greyson, Austin, Deegan, Devin and MaryElla. She is also survived by her sisters, whom she loved completely, Helen Benshoof of Pryor, Oklahoma, Betty Curtis and husband Ron of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, her twin sisters, Judy and Ruby Danderson of Pryor, Terri Smith of Adair, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Merlene Danderson of Collinsville, Oklahoma.
She leaves behind special nieces Leeann and Edith Danderson and their children who called her grandma, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends all of which knew how much she loved and adored them because to her you were family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill Sales, her brothers, Arnold, Billy and Bobbie Danderson and sisters Louise Hamil and Joyce Nelson.
She is and will forever be missed by all that knew her.
