Mary Jo Wright, 92, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Muskogee, died Friday, August 23, 2019 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born November 28, 1925 to Van C. and Mary (English) Smith in Tulsa. Mary Jo graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1944 and received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa in 1964. She had a passion for learning and throughout her life she studied journalism and radio & broadcasting at multiple colleges and universities.

Mary Jo's hobbies were gardening, photography, writing plays, and playing the piano. She loved traveling, spending time with her family, and was a member of a creative writing class and the Tulsa Press Club. Professionally, Mary Jo was a financial and business writer for the Tulsa Business Chronicle.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raleigh Wright, and two sisters, Barbara Maynard and Shirley Frisby. She is survived by a son, Steven Wright and wife Jane from Tulsa; 3 daughters, Kaye Coats from Grand Lake, Pamela Wright from Tulsa, and Susan Karpiel and husband Ed of The Colony, Texas; two sisters and their husbands, Helen and Tom Burns of Pampa, Texas, and Joan and Lou Higgs of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; cousins Betty Weaver of Muskogee and Mary Curt of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Jo's funeral will be held Friday, August 30th at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church downtown Tulsa. Burial services to follow at Floral Haven located at 61st and 129th.
