Wofford, Doctor Matthew Grant, Optometrist and Attorney, passed Monday, November 7th. He was beloved and respected by his family, friends, and colleagues for a life defined by deep intelligence, sense of humor, generosity, and compassion. Dr. Wofford's career reflected his hard work and dedication to improve the vision health of thousands of his patients.
Dr. Matt Wofford has been a practicing Optometrist in Tulsa for over 30 years. He is a 1985 graduate of the Northeastern State University College of Optometry and a 1995 graduate of the University of Tulsa's College of Law.
In 1985 Matt entered into private practice in Broken Arrow shortly thereafter he joined the Triad Eye Institute as Head of the Optometry Department from 1986 to 1995. During those years he attended night classes at the Tulsa College of Law graduating in 1995. He maintained his Oklahoma Bar Associate membership until present day. In 1998 he continued his education in the Optometry field and received his certificate for Laser Vision Correction and lead the state in procedures performed. Also serving as a clinical lecturer for the Oklahoma Optometry Association and participating in political movements for the OAOP .
In 1995 he entered back into private practice and joined the Eye Mart of Tulsa group where his office remains today in Tulsa on Yale and 41st.
His home town sports contributions and enthusiasm were evident as you entered into Dr. Wofford's office. The office walls and shelves house Tulsa's Drillers, Oilers, Talons, 66ers, and Shock sports team's memorabilia given to Dr. Wofford in appreciation for the eye exams and contacts he had provided to every team player, staff, and immediate family member. Dr. Wofford had bestowed eye care to every player who came to the Tulsa Drillers organization since 1997.
Matt was a devoted father spending countless hours at the ball field with his boys. He coached their teams for the past eight years taking them to the Little League World Series playoffs in New Mexico and Colorado. However, frequent trips with his children were his most cherished moments. He wanted them to have special memories of their travel adventures which he meticulously planned and executed. He was a lover of Hawaii Island's humpback whales and tropical plants, California's Giant Red Woods, Texas striper fishing, the Alaska Wilderness, and the Colorado Rockies.
He was an extreme adventurer when it came to his travels but the love to drive fast was his passion and you better get out of the slow lane. The souvenir hood of his wrecked Porsche in his garage or a picture of his previously owned Ferrari would lead to a conversation reflecting his admiration of a high performance race car. Matt loved a fast driving experience.
Matt Wofford was born November 12, 1960 in Saint Louis Missouri, son to husband and wife Donal E. Wofford and Betty L. Wofford.
