Obituary

Maurice E. Oakes, 101 years old, long-time Tulsa resident, passed to his reward with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Maurice was born March 14, 1918 to Phillip Curran Oakes and Dora (Brumley) Oakes in Harrisonville, MO. He was a twin with his sister Martha. There were eight children in the family. Maurice married Margaret Gasser on March 26, 1940, in Medicine Park, OK. They were blessed with four sons. Maurice worked in the plumbing industry and was at the Sunoco Oil Refinery in Tulsa for 37 years. He was a charter member and Elder at Osage Hills Christian Church in Tulsa. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, wood working and was a Scoutmaster for several years with The Boys Scouts. Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, a son Clifford Oakes, brothers and sisters, Violet, Vernon, Hubert, Cecil, Martha, Edward and Bob Cartner, a step- brother, grandchildren, Edith Jane Oakes, Danny Oakes and a great-grandchild, Brandon Kelley. He is survived by his three sons, Phillip Oakes, wife Jean of Broken Arrow, OK, Richard Oakes, wife Cathy of Jenks, OK, Doug Oakes, wife Karen of Tulsa, OK, ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
