Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of Mavis Elaine Knutsen Moore announces her passing on March 26, 2026. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 24, 1926, the only child of Ida Elvina Jensvold Knutsen and Edward Arnold Knutsen, she was only days away from her 100th birthday at the time of her death.

Mavis moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, with her parents while still a toddler in 1931. She became a life-long resident of Tulsa and a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church. She attended Lanier Grade School, Wilson Jr. High, and Will Rogers High School. At Saint John's School of Nursing, she earned her RN, and then graduated from the University of Tulsa with her bachelor's degree.

She met the love of her life, Thurman Edward "Ed" Moore, while he was attending Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) on the G.I. Bill. They married in 1950 and became the parents of three children. They celebrated 57 years of marriage together.

Mavis was also lovingly known as "Mimi" to her family members and close friends. She adored her family and especially loved BABIES! She spent the majority of her long nursing career as an RN at Children's Medical Center where she retired in 1988.

Mavis was born with a love for travel, and she adored going anywhere in a car, whether as passenger or driver, and she remained an excellent driver into her 90s! Her favorite place to vacation was Colorado for fall foliage tours to view golden Aspen leaves, and also for numerous family ski trips at various locations. In Tulsa, she loved to visit Chandler Park and the Cry Baby Hill overlook at the end of Riverside Drive. She also loved international travel and was especially fond of Norway and Denmark.

Some of the things that Mavis was known for were her Christmas Eve Open House and the elegant spread that she and Ed hosted for decades for close friends and family. She loved Russell Stover's and Whitman's Chocolates, beautiful flowers, classical music and attending the symphony and ballet, PEPSI, eating out at Cardigan's and many other favorite places, and she loved shopping...lots and lots of shopping. She was perhaps one of the best customers of Nielsen's Gift Shop in Tulsa, and her home décor was living proof of that!

After her husband passed away in 2007, Mavis remained active and involved in life's activities for the years to come. She especially cherished her family and loved sitting on her sofa and watching the digital picture frame that constantly rotated photos of her family and favorite places. Thanks to her daughter, Susie's, loving oversight and the tremendous help of next-door neighbor, Penny Creitz, and housekeeper Mrs. Moss, Mavis was blessed to live by herself in her home until just recently. Her son, George, also devoted substantial time to caring for and entertaining his mother with car rides, cooking and companionship in recent months.

Survivors include Mavis' three children, Melinda Sue "Susie" Hime and husband Craig of Tulsa, OK; son George and wife, Sandra Pulley of Carrollton, TX; and son Nelson and wife Risa Anderson Moore of Park City, Utah. Her four grandchildren are Rebecca Hime Jones and husband Dr. Ryan Jones of Mounds, OK; Eric Hime and wife Bailey of Tulsa, OK; Cameron Moore and wife Catherine of Tulsa, OK; and Nicole Moore Burleson and husband Logan Burleson of Dallas, TX. Eleven great-grandchildren include Reid, Rowan and Reagan Jones; Eloise and Boden Hime; Cohen, Callaway, Caden, Camille and Coulter Moore; and Sloane Burleson.

For those who are interested, a viewing (not family "visitation") at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home at 9350 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, OK, is scheduled from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday. The memorial service is scheduled at 1 o'clock on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2331 E. 5th Place, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorials for Mavis Moore can be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to an organization of your choice.
