Obituary

Jo Beattie, 86, of Tulsa, Oklahoma died September 13, 2024, in Tulsa, surrounded by her children.
Born Mayra Jolene Harrison in Altus, Oklahoma on May 5, 1938, Jo was the first of three children of Joe T Harrison and Flossye Liza Harrison. The family settled in Tulsa shortly after her birth. Jo graduated from Will Rogers High School before marrying Lyal "Speed" Beattie. The couple had four children.
A gifted artist and crafter, Jo excelled at sewing, quilting, crochet, cooking, ceramics, and stained glass. Her skills at sewing gave her the opportunity to create jerseys and hats for jockeys and blankets for winning horses in horse races, including contestants in the Kentucky Derby. Jo also loved traveling, and through Speed's work, was able to experience life in Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, and South Korea. However, her fondest memories are from her life in Australia. Her life in Australia was one of the most incredible life place she lived and loved. Jo would draw on inspiration from her life and travels in her artwork. Her fondest life-long memory was collecting stamps with her father, a hobby she continued throughout her life.
Jo worked for Southwestern Bell in Tulsa when her kids were babies and Pedigroves Feed Store in Claremore as her kids got older. Jo ran the family's convenience store, Beattie's Bait and Grocery in Oologah when her kids were in college or developing their careers. She had a great laugh and a wonderful way of telling stories of her travels and life. Jo Beattie was an awesome mother! She loved and protected her kids. She was so proud of her kids. We will miss our mom dearly.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband Speed. She is survived by her children, Deb, Kim, Mike and Trey Beattie; six grandchildren, Kari, Lucas, Brain, Charles, Allison and Jocie; and four great-grandchildren; Asher, Cecilia, Lily and Theo.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Lily's Ranch and Rescue, a safe haven for farm animals, a cause very close to Jo's heart and family. She loved this ranch. Their website is under construction right now. You can find them on Facebook: lilysranchandrescue. You can also donate through Venmo: @lilysranch or though PayPal: Lilysranchandrescue
