Melanie Elizabeth (Norton) Cheek was born on November 14,1968 in Tulsa, OK to James (Jim) Curtice Norton and Ronda Leigh (Mitchell) Norton. She passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023, in Tulsa, OK while in the presence of her loved ones.

A graduate of Edison High School class of 1987, Melanie excelled in high school diving. She competed at the state level, routinely medaling in one of the top two positions. Melanie went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX) in 1991. She was an active member in her communities of Dallas and Austin, TX, with various volunteering and advisory board positions. She was also a member of University Park United Methodist Church (Dallas, TX) and Lake Hills Church (Austin, TX).

The greatest joy of Melanie's life was her three children, and she dedicated her life to motherhood. She was their constant cheerleader and supporter and encouraged them in all they did. Melanie was also a wonderful friend and lit up any room she entered. She had many passions and talents, and was most happy sharing them with those she loved, whether that meant painting a special piece of art, cooking a meal or travelling with them. She truly lived life to the fullest.

Melanie was a joy to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her and all those who had the honor of knowing her will miss her dearly. She is predeceased by her mother, Ronda Leigh (Mitchell) Norton. She is survived by her three children, Chloe Elizabeth, Courtney Christen, and James Taylor Cheek; her former husband, John Taylor Cheek; her father, James (Jim) Curtice Norton; her two sisters, Christen Trussell (Dee) and Leslie Croteau (David) as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
