Michael Donald Munro, age 60, of Tulsa Ok, died at his home March 22, 2014. Born at Kindley AFB in St Georges Bermuda, Michael was the eldest son of Donald and Marilyn Munro formerly of Saugerties NY, now residing in Spotsylvania VA. Michael was an Air Force veteran, having served as enlisted Security Police at Bergstrom AFB Austin Tx, TAK-LI Royal Thai AFB, U-TAPAO Royal Thai AFB, Laos ,Cambodia, Saigon, Vietnam, and Karamursel AFB Turkey. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Southeast Campaign Ribbon, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, the Air Force Meritorious Service Award, and multiple other awards.
Upon returning to the United States he served at Plattsburg AFB, graduating from SUNY-Plattsburg and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1986 . He was commissioned an Officer and served as Missile Launch Officer at Grand Forks ND, then as Deputy Commander and Chief Satellite Officer, Defense Operations Center, Cheyenne Mtn. Colorado at the rank of Captain.
On leaving military service Mike took a position as a Senior Program Manager Airport Systems-Rockwell Collins , Tulsa Ok. For a hobby, Mike was the Manager of Cowboys Nightclub Colorado Springs, Co, and was a PRCA announcer for the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Assoc. and the Colorado Professional Rodeo Assoc. Mike was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer.
Michael is survived by a son Shawn M. Munro of Gonzales, La., his parents Donald and Marilyn Munro and five siblings Patricia, Kathleen, Richard, Timothy and Wendy, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Make a Wish Foundation in Michaels name.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Moore Southlawn Funeral Home 9350 E. 51st St, Tulsa at 2pm on Saturday march 29, 2014. Final Interment will be held at a future date in Colorado. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233 share memories at Moore's Southlawn Chapel.
