Mikel Bay Chism 78, of Tulsa, OK, passed away on March 1, 2018 from numerous complications of the flu. Mikel Bay Chism was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 22, 1939 to Nevlin Edwin Chism and Evelyn Grace Woods-Chism. Mikel was preceded in death by both of his parents & sister, Ann Johnston, of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Mike graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1957. Mike graduated from Oklahoma State University 1962 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. After graduation Mike was employed at The Boeing Company, formerly Rockwell International, where he worked as a Senior Structural Design Engineer from 1964 to 2005.
Mike began his volunteer work in 2006 with the Tulsa Police Department's VIPS Program (Volunteers In Police Service). During his time with VIPS Mike loved working alongside the officers in his assigned position. Mike had accrued of 9400 hours of volunteer service to Tulsa Police Department.
During his lifetime Mike enjoyed family gatherings, float trips, fishing, attending all of his grandchildren's events, a perfectly trimmed lawn, volunteer work, grilling, family holidays, and above all else, making others happy. In his youth Mike enjoyed working the family farm in Hennessey, Oklahoma with Grandpa Woods and Uncle Jack.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife and college sweetheart of 56 years, Joan Chism. Daughter, Darlene Chism and her wife Susan Kemman of Thornton, Colorado. Daughter Charlene Ballard and her husband Rick of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Son, Douglas Chism and his wife Tina of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His four grandchildren-Wesley Solem USMC, Connor Chism USAF, Peyton Ballard and Gentry Ballard, 2 great- grandchildren Gunnar and Kaelyn Solem. Plus many other extended family members and friends that loved and adored this amazing man.
Visitation is at Moore's Southlawn Chapel on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 8am to 8pm.
