Obituary

Burns – Mildred Ellouise Avants, 93, went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, on October 16, 2014. She died at home surrounded by her loving family and is now dancing with the angels. Mildred, a real sweetheart, was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1921, in Fort Gibson, OK. After retiring from McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa, she moved to Huntsville, AR, and lived there with her husband, Wallace, until his illness brought them back to Tulsa. Mildred will be remembered for her strong faith, her kind heart, and her big, beautiful smile. Just by speaking to her for a few short minutes, you could see that there was something different about her. She had a joy that was contagious, a joy that only comes from having a relationship with the creator of the universe, and it impacted everyone she knew. Her loving spirit was evident to all those around her as she selflessly gave in many ways. Her endless strength was shown as she overcame a very challenging childhood, and continued to have faith and a positive outlook throughout her lifetime. Because of her faithfulness, we have no doubt that she was welcomed into heaven by Jesus with open arms, and He said, "well done my good and faithful servant". She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband-the love of her life-Wallace Eugene Burns, and a son, Dr. Donald Ray Burns, Osteopathic Physician. Mildred is survived by a daughter and her husband, Carol and Dr. David S. James, Tulsa OK. She is also survived by granddaughters and their families: Teri and Dr. John Thompson, Brittany, Christopher, and Caroline, of Kennebunkport, ME, Julie and Sanjay Meshri, Maddi, Bella, and Daya, of Tulsa, OK, Mechelle and John Dubois, Gavin, and Maci, of Houston, TX, and Brandi and Mike Sanner, Madison and Nick, of Houston, TX, and one grandson, David Anthony (Tony) James and his wife Kelli, and daughters Julie and Jaycie, of Tulsa, OK. Mildred is also survived by four sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Our family is especially grateful to the kind loving hands and heart of Mildred's dearest friend and caregiver, Dorothy Nightengale and her family.
