Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Drysee Keadle, 93, of Tulsa, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018. She was born February 3, 1925 in Sherman, TX and raised in Yoakum, TX. Her parents were Mattie Virginia and Elexander "Pat" William Drysee.

She graduated high school at 17 in Yoakum, Texas and moved to her step sisters in San Antonio, Texas. She worked at the Milam Cafeteria until she turned 18 and went to work at Kelly Air Force Base. This is where, during WWII, she met the love of her life, Norman Newton Keadle. They had a whirlwind courtship before he shipped out to Germany. While stationed on base, my dad drove an ambulance and this was the means of their transportation. Mom had so many stories about when dad was running late to pick her up, he would flip on the sirens and lights to get there. Or, one time the MP stopped him, he had mom get on the gurney and covered up so he could explain he was running red to get the patient transported. When he deployed, they wrote back and forth. He sent her a map so she could keep up with him. Upon his return, they married on December 21, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas and remained together until his death in March 1985. They moved to Tulsa in 1949 and this is where she resided until her passing.
Her husband and two daughters were what made her the happiest and, of course, the Dallas Cowboys, unless they were playing like "girls". Everyone knew when the Cowboys played life stopped at our house until the game was over. She was also a great fan of the Houston Astros and could quote stats for either team. After the games, she would call her grandson, Dallas, and discuss the plays of whatever game she had watched.
She was a 30-year member of OSU Extension Homemakers. She was also active in many activities with them, including the photography competition at the Tulsa Fair.
We didn't have a lot of family, so we would travel for 2 weeks each summer. Dad didn't care where we went, so mom would pick out someplace and off we would go. She and dad continued to travel together until his passing. After which she took many bus tours.
She and dad had very close friends that they enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with, weekly. And after dad passed, she joined a senior center where she made many friends and played cards and dominoes, daily. She was always ready if one of her friends called with the prospect of a game. She truly loved and enjoyed life. She will be greatly missed, but I believe she is where she wants to be. Beside my dad, planning their next trip.
She was preceded in death by husband Norman of 49 years, her parents Pat & Mattie, her step sister Betty, step brothers Bill, Fred, and Albert. Surviving her are daughters, Pat Gougler & John McFarland, Sue Vanderford & husband David, grandchildren Courtney Gougler & Derek Lutz, Dallas Vanderford & wife Jennifer, Chelsey Jones & husband Billy. And her two, precious great-grandbabies, Vann Dee Jones and Berkley Sue Jones, and a host of lifelong friends.
