Mildred June Josephine S. Wasson, 90, of Tulsa, died Monday, January 11, 2016 in Tulsa, OK.
Mildred June Josephine Swindell Wasson was born June 5, 1925 near Hiwasse, Arkansas to the late Walter Edgar and Rhoda Caroline (Bradbury) Swindell.
Mildred graduated from Hiwasse High School Valedictorian of her class and attended Draughn's Business School in Tulsa, OK. After graduation, Mildred went to work for Texaco Inc. at its West Tulsa refinery office in August 1944, and after working 38 years, retired in August 1982. In 1958, Mildred joined the Yale Avenue Christian Church where she met and married Kenneth Wasson in 1975. They traveled extensively together for the next several years to Europe, Mexico, Aruba, and Grand Cayman. They especially enjoyed regular trips to the Texas Gulf Coast.
Mildred was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 66 years, beginning in 1949.
Being an active member and supporter of the sorority gave her great pride and joy. She attained all degrees and honors possible. She held all offices of her local chapter and was chosen Valentine Queen and received the prestigious honor of being Woman of the Year.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 21 years, Kenneth Wasson; and his grandson Ben Carter. Her brother Condrey Swindell and his wife, Leota. Sister, Lou Ann Carver and infant sister, Ima Jean Swindell.
She is survived by her brother in law, Donald Carver, Adair. 2 nephews, 1 niece and numerous great nieces and nephews. Her husband's children, Larry Wasson and wife of Broken Arrow; David Wasson, Tulsa; Melinda Brannan, Jenks. 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.
